After years of changes for better or worse, the end has come for what started as a weekly Spanish radio show in southern Minnesota.
When Clandestino Radio first aired in September 2012, our format was straight forward: a variety playlist, accompanied by a chat about current topics between the two hosts and co-founders. Every once in a while we featured an interview with artists, including musicians, painters, poets, activists, always aiming to entertain and hopefully educate, or merely share what we, as immigrant members of the community, were experiencing at the time. As one would expect, personal life changes forced the show to go remote for several years, which included a time when one of the co-founders left and Clandestino Radio had a different co-host.
The formats have changed but the essence of the show remained, to showcase creations of independent artists. This was also a time during which Cheo continued to learn how to best polish an audiovisual project, more in technical terms. All these experiences have continued to inspire artistic ideas, which are slowly taking shape through our various channels, including audiovisual productions.
Having shared that, it is fair to say that the old Clandestino Radio is done, leaving room for a reset of the art. Our current season will feature exclusive interviews with artists, activists, including New York Times and international bet-selling author Romina Garber, the bolivian filmmaker Alvaro Olmos Torrico, and more. In the mean time, feel free to share your thoughts, ideas or jokes, and don’t forget to stay tuned.
Gracias and cheers!
